Apollo Tyres - Tyres To Turf

In this day and age, it is our responsibility to ensure that we leave no stone unturned in reducing waste and preserving our planet and Apollo Tyres is doing just that with their newest initiative – TyresToTurf. While its name is intriguing and makes you wonder what it means, TyresToTurf is Apollo Tyres’ endeavour to repurpose old tyres into sustainable sports pitches. The unique initiative aims at repurposing, recycling, and reusing tyres to create a sustainable playground for future generations to enjoy.

Apollo Tyres has already installed two pitches in India; one in Chennai and the other in Pune, as a part of their efforts to encourage the youth to take up sports and pursue their dreams. The initiative works on the firm belief that every child should have access to sports facilities and also have the opportunity to learn, grow and play sports on a green playing surface.

Apollo Tyres has been working for the past five years to remodel tyres and create sports pitches that are more sustainable. The first such pitch was established near the North Stand of the iconic Old Trafford in Manchester, home of Apollo Tyres' partner Manchester United Football Club, way back in 2014.

Since then, the two new pitches at Chennai and Pune have been created, bringing the total number to 20. Out of those 20, 11 are already in use, with four more sets to be revealed in the Northern and Eastern regions of India within the coming month.

Apollo Tyres is committed to making the world a greener place through sustainable practices and initiatives, so it's no surprise that they've come up with yet another amazing idea to help clean up the earth while also providing access to sports for people across India.

Every year, one billion end-of-life tyres (ELT) pollute the environment, lying in landfills, and stockpiles around the world. Apollo Tyres has found a new way to recycle, reuse, and repurpose these tyres by turning them into playing surfaces for multiple sports, so now you can feel good about shooting hoops or having a game of soccer!

The two new pitches were inaugurated by Satish Sharma, President of Asia Pacific, Middle East & Africa (APMEA), who stated: "These pitches created using repurposed rubber from our tyres are one of the many initiatives that we are taking towards our Sustainability Journey. These pitches have a two-fold objective -- towards a sustainable future and 'access to sports' for the youth from the local communities, where they can test out and hone their sporting skills."

They say practice makes perfect, and Apollo Tyres wants to make sure that it's as easy as possible for people to have the chance to perfect their skills on the field. That's why they've dedicated themselves to creating sustainable pitches using repurposed car tyres.

By collecting old tyres and shredding them into pieces of crumb rubber, Apollo Tyres can build layers of crumb rubber on the ground of a sporting pitch that is safe for use and help to produce a surface of high quality.

This repurposing of tyres serves multiple purposes: not only does it mean that the pitch itself is built from an eco-friendly material, but it also allows people who might not otherwise have the opportunity to play sports and hone their skills on a high-quality pitch, regardless of where they live or what kind of access they might have to such spaces.

Apollo Tyres' dedication to creating a sustainable model for soccer pitches also helps keep them functioning for years so that players will be able to continue honing their skills in any environment long-term.
