Let’s keep the distance, but stay together

The COVID-19 pandemic has caught the whole world off-guard and has been rapidly spreading, disrupting life all round. The most impacted have been the migrant and daily wage workers whose lives have now come to a screeching halt due to the lockdown imposed across India. True to our core value of One Family, we have continued our support to our communities and stakeholders.

Recently, Apollo Tyres led several initiatives across various in India, including Haryana, Delhi, Kerala, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, in the fight against the spread of COVID-19 and helping those in need.

Raising awareness

A key initiative and perhaps the crucial element at a time like this. Beginning in March, we started creating awareness about the perils of Coronavirus in various ways, including hoardings and pamphlets. The messages were delivered in multiple languages with definite Do’s and Don’ts to stop the spread of COVID-19. We adopted a ‘train the trainer’ model. Women from our women empowerment programme were selected and trained to further cascaded the training in their villages and communities, extending the initiative’s reach to over a million people.

Helping those in need

Initiatives led by Apollo Tyres helped households whose livelihoods are affected by the lockdown. Our teams provided cooked food for families living in Gurgaon slums, and for our trucking community in the Transport Nagar. Furthermore, we witnessed the power of communities when beneficiaries from our ongoing programmes came out to support donation drives in their areas. This has helped us reach the last mile within a very short time frame. We also provided 15-day ration support of essential supplies such as ration support and hygiene kits to our communities. This was mainly for daily wage earners who have the provision for cooking at home and has benefitted over 10,000 families.

Ongoing support to our beneficiaries

Our healthcare teams are continuously supporting the people in need of primary care. We are in regular touch with patients, mainly the ones taking TB treatment to keep tabs on their health. Our teams are making the medicine available to patients with the support of District TB offices, and, at times, also arranging the supply of nutritious food for patients.

Our ongoing women empowerment programme has been realigned to link women beneficiaries in Gujarat, with Government schemes for COVID. Further, to promote livelihood, we are sourcing mandatory masks from our established tailoring units. Our women beneficiaries have received monetary support to the tune of INR 5 million through Government linkages.

Testing support for COVID-19

Our Healthcare service has recently started screening for COVID-19 at Agartala, Tripura Transhipment Hub. This is aligned with the Government’s programme, and our frontline staff plays a crucial role in containing the pandemic. In these testing times, we appeal to everyone – Let’s keep the distance, but stay together. Go the distance to help people.
